Anthropic donates Agent Skills standard to the Agentic AI Foundation

On October 22, 2026 Anthropic transferred its Agent Skills open standard to the Linux Foundation's Agentic AI Foundation, handing over the name, logo, GitHub organization and agentskills.io domain while leaving the SKILL.md format unchanged. Anthropic cited more than 70 integrated platforms including ChatGPT, Cursor and GitHub Copilot, about 1 million published skills and nearly 280 million installs.

It puts a vendor-neutral body in charge of a format that a large share of agent tooling already depends on.
