UK commits £100M to an AI Biosecurity Lab with OpenAI, Anthropic and DeepMind
The UK government pledged £100 million to a new independent AI Biosecurity Lab, billed as the world's first dedicated AI biosecurity organisation, with OpenAI and Anthropic each offering up to £100 million in compute or model credits and Google DeepMind joining as research partner. Total backing reaches about £300 million, mostly in kind rather than cash, and the lab is meant to detect biological threats earlier and shorten the path to vaccines and treatments.
LiteLLM backports the 1.107.0 compromise fix to four branches and rotates its cosign key
BerriAILiteLLM published 1.103.8, 1.104.6, 1.105.4 and 1.106.3 on October 24, backporting fixes to every supported branch rather than only the latest line, after 1.107.0 was found to carry a credential stealer and backdoor. All four releases also move Docker images and Helm charts to a new cosign key from commit e82a3c6; verification with the previous key from 0112e53 now fails, so any script or admission policy pinning the old cosign.pub must be updated to the new digest e3fe3e08c44b16407fe0b37c43b4f8b603b3a0f4ee74c29e647bc022d762c2c0.

Moonshot quantifies the cyber capability it deliberately removed from Kimi K3.1 Pro
Moonshot AIMoonshot says it stripped cyber-related data from both training stages and from its RL environments before shipping Kimi K3.1 Pro, leaving the model at 81.0% on its internal vulnerability-discovery-and-exploitation benchmark against 90.5% for an otherwise identical checkpoint, versus 33.3% for K3 on the same test. It calls the gap 'by design, below what our pipeline can produce' and still promises full weights by November 4.
Google Research reports MedGemma TB screening running at about 40 facilities
GoogleGoogle Research detailed a tuberculosis screening deployment built on the open HAI-DEF models MedGemma and MedSigLIP plus the HeAR audio model, where 90-plus clinicians reviewed more than 25,000 chest X-rays and cut result turnaround from weeks to under 45 seconds. The partner system holds CE MDR Class IIb certification and runs in South Africa, Sierra Leone and Côte d'Ivoire, with expansion planned in the DRC, Zambia, Cameroon and Indonesia's national programme; MedGemma has passed 10 million downloads.
Trion-1: Unifying Language, Protein Sequence, and Structure with Diffusion Language Models
Trion-1 is presented as the first native unified diffusion language model for proteins, using one discrete token space for sequence, structure and natural language over a bidirectional dLLM backbone. It covers folding, inverse folding, sequence and structure understanding and design while keeping general LLM language ability; under strict homology control it reaches a TM-score above 0.8 from a single sample, matching a tri-modal baseline that needs 200 samples.
Questioning Instrumental Convergence in RLVR: Checkpoint Evidence from OLMo-3
Instead of a before/after safety score, the authors track instrumental-convergence behaviour across SFT, DPO, 13 intermediate RLVR checkpoints and the final OLMo-3-7B-Think using InstrumentalEval. The trajectory is non-monotonic: 25.0% at SFT, peaking at 46.1% near RLVR step 200, then falling to 11.8% at the final checkpoint, with prompt framing explaining only about 15% of within-checkpoint variance.
Low-Bit N-Gram Embeddings for Language Models
The paper quantizes the n-gram, Engram-style embedding tables now used by open-weight models, noting that DeepSeek-V4.1-Flash spends 196B parameters on its Engram memory. Across nanochat-, Llama- and GPT-2-family models trained from scratch, four-bit tables cut roughly 75% of table memory while keeping over 99% of the validation-loss gain, and reinvesting the saved memory in larger tables beats the original full-precision tables.
Anthropic merges Claude Chat and Cowork into one Enterprise experience
AnthropicAnthropic made Claude Chat and Claude Cowork a single generally available product for Claude Enterprise, so a conversation can start as chat and continue as an agentic task in an Anthropic-managed cloud VM that keeps running after the laptop closes. Admins get network egress off by default, an Efficient mode restricted to Sonnet and Haiku, model entitlements, spend limits and pooled group budgets; Anthropic says Opus 5.5 costs about 40% less to run than Opus 5.
Claude Code ships MCP Tasks and Elicitations for durable long-running tool calls
AnthropicClaude Code added server-side MCP Tasks and Elicitations in public beta from v2.1.304, announced October 23: an MCP server can answer a tools/call with a task handle containing a task ID, status, TTL and polling interval instead of blocking, and Claude Code polls tasks/get, shows the job in /tasks, and survives exiting and resuming the session. Elicitations let a server pause mid-task and request structured input, rendered as a terminal form or a URL flow tied to the input_required state. It needs MCP protocol revision 2026-07-28 and works only in the terminal CLI, Agent SDK and GitHub Actions, not the VS Code extension, desktop app, Amazon Bedrock, subagent calls or one-shot claude -p runs.
Official MCP servers v2.1.0 patch eight vulnerabilities across three packages
Model Context Protocolmodelcontextprotocol/servers v2.1.0 fixes eight vulnerabilities and requires upgrades to @modelcontextprotocol/server-filesystem 2.0.1, server-everything 2.0.1 and mcp-server-fetch 2026.10.24. The filesystem fixes close a symlink-swap race where a parent directory replaced between the access check and the write could redirect write_file, edit_file, create_directory or a move_file destination outside the allowed roots, only partly fixed on Windows, plus an exact-path check that no longer strips trailing quote or whitespace and a case-variant symlink regression from 2026.8.31. server-everything now checks the Origin header on its HTTP and SSE transports and drops 'Access-Control-Allow-Origin: *', so a visited web page can no longer call tools such as get-env.
OpenClaw 2026.10.7 hardens session recovery and opens an extended-stable LTS line
OpenClawOpenClaw v2026.10.7, released October 24, makes interrupted sessions replay-safe by retaining recovery provenance and unfinished tool outcomes, keeps verified update activations valid through later maintenance errors, resumes interrupted package updates, and adds Gemini 4 Argon support alongside fixes for stale log directories wedging the Gateway and macOS onboarding on fresh profiles. The same day it published v2026.9.34, a gateway-only extended-stable release built from end-September 2026 plus critical security updates, including an apply_patch change that validates a whole ordered envelope before mutating the workspace so a later invalid hunk cannot delete files changed by an earlier one.

Sebastian Raschka publishes a full build-your-own reasoning model course
Raschka published eight coding lectures, about 11 hours, that build a reasoning model from a pre-trained LLM in PyTorch: evaluation, inference-time scaling with sampling and self-consistency, scoring and self-refinement, a GRPO implementation for RLVR with clipping and KL terms, and distillation into a smaller model. The post opens with a section on how reasoning models sit inside an agent harness.
Ollama v0.40.11 adds speech generation on macOS and the d3 decision-model family
OllamaOllama v0.40.11, published October 24, generates speech on macOS: ollama run plays a text or chat model reply aloud as audio streams, and apps can stream through the OpenAI-compatible /v1/audio/speech endpoint. It also adds d3, vLLM Semantic Router's decision models in 2B, 4B, 9B and 27B sizes, which take text, structured state or an image and classify, answer yes/no, or score options with probabilities.
gpu-unlock kernel module doubles FP/BF16 issue rate on RTX 3000 cards
A GPL-2.0-only Linux kernel module that loads before the NVIDIA driver binds the card writes the SS0/SS1 speed selectors and performs an FLR reset to restore the full FP/BF16 FMA issue rate on GA102, GA103, GA104 and GA106 GeForce cards; it is opt-in behind a gpu_unlock.targets= kernel argument and needs no per-driver patching. Reports on a 3090 Ti at 450 W show BF16 dense 8192-cubed GEMM going from 87.5 to 157.4 TFLOPS and TF32 from 42.6 to 82.6, with matrix-heavy prefill and FlashAttention improving while decode and INT8 stay roughly flat. The repository has about 3,000 stars since its October 18 creation and reached the Hacker News front page on October 24.
Kling 4.0 reaches third-party platforms through Luma and the fal API
KuaishouKling 4.0, live on klingai.com since October 15, became selectable inside Luma on October 23, and fal lists Kling v4 Pro endpoints for text-to-video, image-to-video, reference-to-video and edit/extend on its model pages, with availability reported across its customer base from October 24. The model generates up to 30 seconds of native video with audio, with 15 image, video and element references and 10 keyframes.
